Zurich-Verona, Italy Train - Is it worth it?

My wife and I are planning to fly into Zurich in late March. A friend mentioned taking a train from Zurich to Verona, Italy. Our daughter is staying there for the semester so we will probably bring the train back to Zurich from there. Is the scenery worth the time and expense?

There is no direct train from Zürich to Verona. You can travel on that route via Milano and then change for a train to Verona. It is a normal train route, with several tunnels along it. I'd not bother taking those trains just for the sake of doing it.

You can also go the long way via Innsbruck. The change time at Innsbruck is 71 minutes. That route takes you through the Arlberg tunnel, then from Innsbruck over the Brenner pass and down the Adige valley. If you are going to visit your daughter in Verona, how else would you get there? Fly? If you would be paying a premium for a one way fight, then yes, skip the train ride. Otherwise, going round trip by rail is a perfectly valid way to go.

The long way, in this case, means a trip 3h20min longer.
