Dear Travel Helpers,
Is there a requirement of when to be present for a train or a checkin like the airlines?
We are driving back to Zurich and then go down to take a train to Konstanz. Thanks!

No. Just be on the train, ticket or validated pass in hand, before it departs. There is no "check-in." But do allow 15 minutes or so to find the right platform for your train. The Zurich Hauptbahnhof is very large and can be confusing.

No. The platforms at Zürich Hauptbahnhof station are an extension of the public footpath outside (same as any other Swiss station).
If you have a ticket, just saunter onto the correct platform, get on board the train and pick a seat. Your ticket will be checked on the train after it has left the station. Your ticket is valid on any train.
Trains from Zürich Hauptbahnhof to Konstanz are at 7 and 37 minutes past each hour, the trip takes 1½ hours and costs CHF 32 second class (details from www.sbb.ch ).
Depending on where in Zürich you are dropping off the car, it may be convenient to start from a different station in Zürich.
