Zurich Train Station to airport

I will be departing Lucerne and arriving in Zurich by train early in the day before heading to the airport. How long does it take to travel from the Zurich train station to the airport and what is involved? My flight is the next morning and I am considering spending much of the day in Zurich before going to the hotel. Are there luggage storage lockers at the train station and how handy is the train station to the city?

Do you actually want to go to spend a night in Zürich city centre, or do you just think you have to?

Zürich has many stations. Zürich HB is the one in the city centre, Zürich Flughafen is the one at the airport, under the terminal. You can get from Luzern to Zürich Flughafen in 70 minutes. Unless your flight is very early, you can get to the airport just as easily from Luzern (first train departs Luzern 04:55, arrives Zürich Flughafen 06:11).

If you really want to spend a night in Zürich, HB to Flughafen takes 10 minutes, multiple trains per hour. Yes, luggage lockers at Zürich HB. The HB station is on the edge of the old town, everything is walking distance from there (same as in Luzern)..

Thanks, Chris! I am staying at an airport hotel. I am just trying to decide how to plan my day in Zurich.

I am staying at an airport hotel. I am just trying to decide how to plan my day in Zurich.

If it truly is at the airport, (and not just one that claims to be near the airport, but requires a time-consuming bus shuttle. AFAIK the only one actually at the airport is the Radison Blu), then just go straight from Luzern to the airport, drop your bags at the hotel and get a train into Zürich.

You will gather from the above that a hotel within walking distance of Zürich HB station is actually more convenient for Zürich airport than is a hotel where you have to wait for a shuttle bus to get you to and from the airport.
