Will be arriving in Zurich on 8/29/26. Need to be in Freiberg by 9/2. Want to include Strasbourg. Will have a car. Like to hike view castles, medieval cities, museums. We are in our 60s, but very fit and active. Any suggestions for must see sites and where to stop along the way? Is it worth staying in Zurich for the first night?*

Are you arriving after a long haul flight? If so, then spending a night in Zurich to overcome the ill effects of jet lag, before climbing into a strange car to travel unfamiliar roads would be prudent.
which "Freiberg"?
Do you mean Freiberg am Neckar north of Stuttgart?
Or do you mean Freiburg im Breisgau - Freiburg with a "u"?
Or Fribourg, spelled slightly differently, in northwest Switzerland? Or Fribourg in France in the mountains between Nancy and Strasbourg?
It can be confusing with so many places so close and with very similar sounding names.
Is it safe to assume you will be returning the car to Zurich for your flight home?

Sorry Kathleen, you need a better journey planner.
I think, reading the OP word for word, the order is Zürich, Strasbourg, then whichever Freiberg. Kathleen is right. The measurement is Strasbourg to Freiburg im Breisgau (if that's what's meant, there is the Freiberg on the German border in France west of Strasbourg and northeast of Nancy). When squerfurth comes back - this is their first post - we'll know.
