Zurich to Murren travel options

Hello,
Traveling from Zurich to Murren on 6/20 and am curious on options on getting from A to B. Train seems easiest but am open to ideas. Any guidance or specifics would be greatly appreciated!

Yes— the train is the best option with the choice of taking the train from Zurich’s airport (3:16) or downtown (2:52) From Lauterbrunnen to Murren, you’ll need to transfer to a cable car and then a small train.for the final ascent. The train from Interlaaken to Lauterbrunnen is a private railway, as are the cable car and small train to Murren. As such, there can be additional charges for those with Swiss train passes.

Depending on what else you plan to do in the area (and there is a lot to do) you might look into one of the SBB (Swiss train company) travel passes. We went to their office at the Zurich airport and they helped us get the best pass for what we planned to do.

Train from Zurich Flughafen to Interlaken Ost > train to Lauterbrunnen > cable car to Grutschalp > train to Murren

Timetables on SBB.ch/en

Depending on your full itinerary you'll want a half fare card and/or some combo of the Jungfrau Travel Pass or Berner Oberland Pass, which will affect pricing.

For example, if you have the BO Pass, you'd only be paying until Bern. If you have the Jungfrau Travel Pass, you'll only pay until Interlaken Ost. You'll still ride the same route, just affects how much of it you pay for vs using your pass as your ticket. In a scenario where you have the BO Pass, you still ride the train from Zurich to Interlaken Ost but only pay until Bern. Then if someone comes through the train checking tickets after it has passed Bern, you show your pass instead. You don't need to exit the train, you just show your paid ticket vs your pass depending on where in the journey you are.

Hope this helps!

We used the Swiss rail Pass last August. Other than the "high" cable lifts (Junfraoch and Matterhorn) we paid no additional charges. Every trip up to Murren was in incuded.
