Zurich to Munich - Bus

Has anyone taken a bus from Zurich to Munich? It looks like it's the most direct route (and cheapest too) to get to Munich. I am looking to book the DB Bahn bus since it offers the best times. Has anybody used the DB Bahn bus before? Or is there any other buses you recommend?

Thanks!
Megan

I'd probably choose the direct train for an advance price of 39-49 euros. I'm sure the direct bus is also fine and comfortable enough at the advance price of 19 euros, so if that savings is important to your budget, then go for it.

I just checked for a random date (July 2) and the only direct route is a bus. Routes with connections all included a bus, so there must be something going on at that time.

What is your travel date?

There are still direct trains from Munich to Zürich. I see one (EC) leaving Munich on July 2 at 7:17, others at 12:33 and 16:33. It looks like the fares start at 29€.

But there are also direct buses. What started with the Bahn bus from Nürnberg to Praque has been expanded a bit. See www.bahn.de/i/view/USA/en/prices/europe/ic-bus.shtml for a map of all the routes.

All buses from Nürnberg to Zürich now stop at the Munich ZOB (Hackerbrücke) instead of at the Munich Hbf.

Two of the buses each day actually start in Nürnberg and stop at the Munich airport as well; there are another two each day that just go from Munich ZOB to Zürich.

I am going in September (Monday, Sept. 22nd) so it's still too far out to actually book anything. However, I can't find direct trains with earlier dates either. Even flights aren't direct...

You will see direct trains for spring travel. My ticket prices were from a test date in May. Many schedules in Europe are not yet published past June 14.

Megan,
You mentioned not finding direct flights from Zurich to Munich. Swiss air and Luftansa both fly direct.

"I can't find direct trains with earlier dates"

You can't find the direct ECs leaving Munich at 7:17 and 12:33? I can. Are you using the Bahn website? Hint: If you type "Zurich" for the destination, the Bahn will give you Zürich Airport, because Zurich is the spelling international travelers use for Zürich Airport. If you want the town, use "Zürich" or "Zuerich". To specify the main station in town, use Zuerich HB.

Today, the Bahn won't show fares (Savings Fare or Std Fare) past July 12, because they only show fares if they offer to sell ticket online, and they don't sell those tickets more than 92 days in advance.

I took a bus from www.MeinFernBus.de a few weeks ago between Freiburg im Breisgau (Germany) and Zurich (day trip so took it both ways same day). The bus was fine and cheap. I see they run several direct buses a day between Zurich and Munich for as little as 15 Euros one way, as short as 3:45 direct. I'd definitely take a bus with this company again.
