Zurich to Basel 4 Days Itinerary Ideas, Private Guide Recs - July

We arrive in Zurich 5 days before our Rhine cruise begins in Basel.
Mother daughter duo. One senior recovering from ankle surgery, plus one scared of drop off heights (so no cliff walks). Ha!

Our rough idea is to land in Zurich early am, have our large bags sent to our hotel in Basel, then travel light for a few days.
Back in Basel on Day 4 to meet family.

So. I'm looking for an itinerary starting in Zurich and ending in Basel, that maximizes efficient use of time, while allowing a pace to enjoy things. i.e.no 12 hour days trips. Experiencing things is more important to us that "seeing famous things."
We are thinking that getting a private guide might make sense, so possibly interested in a private English speaking guide. (To help with the aforementioned heights concern...). So, would be grateful for recommendations with this, too.

I have Rick's Switzerland book, but I can't figure out what to do with this short/restricted time frame.
And, typically I've found great guide suggestions in his books, that we've used in the past, but didn't see any in this one.
I think the first thing I need to do is figure out where/when.......which is why I'm asking for recommendations of itinerary.

Our main interests:

Stunning alpine scenery and gentle mountain experiences .
We enjoy heights and views, but since one of us is uncomfortable with drop offs we would like to avoid cliff walks, narrow exposed walkways, or anything that may feel unsafe or stressful. Trains are ok. And, I think trams/cable car will be okay. Ha.
One major mountain experience such as Jungfraujoch or Mount Titlis, if possible, or other recommendation.
Food-focused experiences (local cuisine, food tours, or curated dining experiences)
Only level, easy walks, meaning no hiking
One relaxing spa or wellness afternoon (if feasible within the itinerary)
Charming villages, lakes, and scenic routes at a comfortable, unhurried pace

Thank you friends

I would head to Luzern, 1 1/4 hour by direct train from Zurich airport. It is an easy 45 minute train ride from there to Engelberg and Mt Titlis.

For a spa experience, head to Vitznau on a lake boat, then the Rigibahn cogwheel train up the mountain to Rigi Kaltbad. Despite the name (Cold Bath), it has a water temperature of 95 deg F (35 deg C).

From Luzern, it is an easy 1 hour direct train to Basel.

No need for a guide for this. You can ask at the tourist information about all local mountains and they will know what the trip up is like and the conditions at the top.

There is no need to fear that you will immediately be on a cliff walk when you arrive at the summit - you will need to purposely seek them out and usually need to stand in line to get your turn. It will not happen by accident.

When specifically in July is this?

With 3 nights, pick 1 spot and just enjoy it. Luzern is the simplest option as it's the closest and has a variety of activities (spa, mountain, lake, historic town for food, etc.)

If you want to be more IN the mountains, then somewhere like the car free village of Murren is a great option. Depending on when your dates are in July, I often do guided tours of Murren and the surrounding areas. My husband & I spend our summers living there (the rest of the year we also live in Nashville!), so we like to show people around!

If you do Luzern, I'd suggest something like this....
Day 1 - Zurich > Luzern - explore old town, relax
Day 2 - Boat ride + Rigi mountain experience + spa

Day 3 - Mountain excursion (Titlus or Pilatus)
Day 4 - Luzern to Basel

If you do Murren, I'd suggest something like this...
Day 1 - Zurich > Murren - explore the village, relax - dinner at Hotel Eiger or Alpenblick (reservations are a good idea)
Day 2 - Easy paved downhill walk down to Gimmelwald for lunch at the Pension (lovely views) and meandering around the little farms (will see animals, can buy cheese from the farmers, etc.) + afternoon at the Sportzentrum spa (can schedule a massage, they have saunas, steam room, cold plunge, etc) + dinner at Hotel Eiger or Alpenblick
Day 3 - Morning Schilthorn mountain experience + afternoon up the Allmendhubel funicular (lunch there) or easy flat walk through the Lauterbrunnen Valley
Day 4 - Murren to Basel

If you decide to do Murren and your dates are when we are available, we can chat more about showing you around to all the best spots!
