Is it illegal to turn right on a red light in Zurich Switzerland?
It is illegal to turn right on a red light in any country in Europe, unless there is a green arrow to tell you this is possible.
Thanks, Chris. More tips at https://ricksteves-cms.herokuapp.com/travel-tips/transportation/driving-europe-tips.
Did you get a ticket?
Here you go Swiss Rules in English. Also note that speeding fines above about 20K can be base on percentage of your income or assets, so be very careful!!!
In Switzerland, if you are too far over the speed limit, or are over the alcohol limit, the police take your licence away on the spot.
If you have a foreign (non-Swiss) licence they cannot actually take it away, but you are banned from driving in Switzerland with effect immediately.
Unless there is another licensed driver in the car (and if it is a hired car they must be authorised by the hire company), then the only option is a tow truck and a taxi, at your expense. Every year, foreigh tourists get caught by this while speeding on the Autobahn/Autoroute.
