Zurich or Luzern during my last leg of the trip

All,

I have 6 nights stay in Switzerland with 7th day afternoon flying back to US from Zurich. My flight is at 1 PM.
My plan currently is to stay 4 nights in Murren and 2 nights in Luzern. 7th day morning will take a train from Luzern to Zurich airport.

My current itinerary for the 5th day, is to leave Murren to Luzern (using Goldenpass line in the morning). Plan to go to Mt. Zigi that day with a night halt in Luzern. On the 6th day, want to go to Mt. Pilatus, walk through Luzern old town and night stay in Luzern.

Question:
- Should I stay the night in Luzern on 6th night or should I stay in Zurich, with the plan to do little sightseeing in Zurich on 7th day before heading to airport? The other reason being - that I need to pay for Lucern to Zurich on 7th day, as my 6 day Swiss pass will expire.

Thanks

If it was me, I’d spend the last night in Luzern. Save yourself the hassle of changing hotels. The train from Luzern will take you right inside the airport in just over an hour.

Luzern. You really don’t have that much time in the morning of that final day. You would need to leave 9 to get to the airport by 10. 3 hours prior to long haul international flight. You could push that back an hour if you are flying to another gateway airport in Europe (Paris, Amsterdam, etc). If you get up early you can spend a bit of time in old town or by the lake before hopping the train.

Thanks Carrie & Rocket....appreciate your response.

On a different note, does any of you know, if I can take a hiking pole in my carry-on. I have bad knees and want to use it for my trails.

Thanks

Hi VK -
According to TSA rules, hiking poles have to be in checked bags, not carry-on. If you aren't going to check a bag, one option is to ask your hotel in Murren if they have poles you can borrow. Many places in the mountains offer this to their guests. It's also possible to rent them from sports shops in the region.

You can’t take these in a carryon, but I have observed people using these as a walking aid through TSA and then being allowed. May or may not work for you.

I notice that you mention using a single hiking pole... In my experience, using two poles is even better if you worry about your knees. It makes a big difference vs. a single pole.

Loved the bells over the Tellskapelle. I'll go back one day. Beautiful spot.

Definitely stay in Luzern. Not worth switching hotels for. It is so lovely you will wish you had more time.

Thank You all for your reply. I am going to be checking in bags, so should be able to get them in. Decided to stay in Luzern - have already booked a hotel.

Thank You
