Hi all,
Planning to take Bernina Express in my way to Lake Como.
Should I stay in Zurich and leave from Zurich or should I go to Chur spent the nite there and leave following day.
Both look lovely…..which one is the most scenic?

Chur. It has one-tenth the population of Zurich, its city center is pedestrianized and the surrounding mountains are a preview of your Bernina train journey the next day rhrough the Alps.
I stayed in Chur last September prior to the Bernina train trip. The old town, hilly and on the river, is charming with a beautiful cathedral. I stayed at Hotel Stern in a great location in the old town, and a short walk to the train station. It had a reasonable rate of 147 CHF including breakfast. Comfortable old world style hotel with a friendly staff and my room had a great view.
If you leave Zurich for the Bernina Express you have a very early start to your day (6:38). From Chur its only 8:17.
Chur is a very nice little town with an Altstadt (old town) nice row of restaurants on the hill down the station. We stayed at the Hotel Freieck and liked it.

I agree with the other posters, stay in Chur. We have done the Bernina Express train to Italy twice and both trips started in Chur. Nice scenic little city center.
You can take the regional trains, which run on the same tracks, and have more schedule flexibility . The regionals don't require seat reservations, the windows open, allowing for better pix, and they are less crowded, which allowed us to hop from side to side as the scenery changed. Have a great trip, it's spectacular.
