Zurich lodging/day trips during week of soccer training

Hello,
My son will be attending soccer training in Zurich Jun 10-15. We will have spent the previous 5 days in Lauterbrunnen. He is training with YF Juventus and it appears their field is near the Familiengarten near the Altstetten area. We fly back to the USA on the 16th.
I need help with lodging suggestions? Areas of the city?
Can we take a train to the fields easily or do I need to rent a car?
Any day trips you would suggest? (I believe his training will be in the evenings)
I love visiting France especially. Germany?

Thanks for your insights as always!

I've looked at Google Maps and zoomed in until I saw the bus, train and tram stops. There is a bus 307 stop just outside the Sports Complex Juchof 1 just near the Familiengarten in Altstetten. Is that where they are training?

There is also a bus 307 stop at the station in Altstetten so they would appear to both be linked, and in Switzerland I would have expected that. There is also a tram, but it doesn't go west far enough.

The Altstetten station has lots of trains so should be easy and frequent from both of the main train stations in Zurich.

When I stay in Zurich I actually stay in a suburb - Affoltern am Albis, which is a little south towards Zug. I stay at the Holiday Inn Express there which has parking for my car which I drive from England.

Coincidentally both Altstetten and Affoltern am Albis stations are served by both the S5 and S14 trains.

The 307 bus does go between Schlieren and Altstetten stations via the sports facilities, but I don't think it runs very late (last bus ca 7pm) - you might want to check with the team and make sure that this bus actually works with the training schedule, especially if training will be in the evenings. Otherwise it's a good 15-20 minute walk to Altstetten station from the sports fields and a car might then be more practical.

There is also a new hotel right at the Altstetten station that you could have a look at: https://www.aja.de/kampagnen/zuerich/en/

Altstetten itself isn't a very exciting area of Zurich (offices and apartments), but the train station is well-connected and only a 5-6 minute ride into the city center.
