I am spending a few days in Zurich. Any good hotel suggestions?
Are you in Zurich for work or to visit family or friends? If not, perhaps you would want to take a look at neighboring Luzern. Its beautiful. Its a smaller town surrounded by mountains and sits on a river and a very large lake. I haven't stayed overnight in Zurich so I wouldn't have recommendations there.
There are many great hotels...it depends on what you're looking for. No one knows your definition of "good".
I stayed at Hotel Adler when I was there. It was a brisk walk to the train station, and they have a wonderful fondue restaurant. We enjoyed our stay.
I can't tell you where I'd recommend, but I can tell you where not to stay. We made the mistake of following Rick's recommendation of Hotel Bristol. Spartan room accommodations and breakfast selections. No A.C. which means opening your window to the loud noises from the street and other guests. The staff was very nice, but that is the only positive thing I can say about it.
We stayed at the Hotel Alexander.
Pros: Convenient to train station; small grocery next door, air conditioning, clean.
Cons: Small rooms and if you have a room facing the street incredible street noise/partying most of the night. If I were to stay here again, I would insist on a room at the back of the hotel.
You might have a look at the Walhalla Hotel which is right next to the Zürich Hbf. The rooms are clean and modern and the hotel is in a very convenient location.....
- It's only about a two minute walk to the station. If it's raining, there's an entrance to the underground mall that leads to the station right next to the hotel.
- The stop for city tour buses, etc. is right across the street.
- It's within walking distance to the river and some nice restaurants.
- There's a Tram stop right in front of the hotel, so easy to get just about anywhere served by the Tram network.
Thank you for those suggestions. I will look into each of them. "Good" is a subjective thing but for me I mean clean, close to transportation, not overly expensive (which I realize Zurich is pricey), AC and breakfast are nice to have. I don't spend much time in my room so size doesn't matter much to me.
We stayed at the Hotel St. Josef in Zurich. A short 10-minute walk from the main station. It was spacious, clean, and served a wonderful breakfast. Easy walk into the old town. Reasonable rates for Zurich.
