Arriving allegedly in Zurich at 6:30pm on a Wednesday night and have a flight at 9:40 the next morning so...........we are looking for a place that will let us get a "taste" of Zurich that evening and allow us a quick getaway the next day. Love some hotel recommendations and/or neighborhoods to stay in?

I recommend staying in the Altstadt, on or around Niederdorfstrasse. That's probably the area that will be most interesting to you during your limited time in Zurich. The shops will all be closed, but there are many restaurants and interesting streets to stroll. It's a short walk from the main train station, and there's also frequent tram service. (To cover your trip from and to the airport, get a 24-hour three-zone pass, which includes all the Zurich city transportation for the entire period.)
I can't comment on any of the specific hotels in that area, but there are many to choose from.
