Zurich for a few days - best things to see in and around

We fly into Zurich at the beginning of a trip, then take a train to Milan. We can take a few extra days in and around Zurich or on the way to Milan. We do not plan to rent a car. Suggestions welcome.

I would go straight to Lucerne once you land in Zurich. You can get a train right at the airport. Lucerne is on the train route to Milan. Another option is to head to Lugano, also on the train route to Milan.

I liked Zurich. We took the bus to the Lindt Chocolate Factory and the boat back. Toured the FIFA Museum because the kids love soccer and took a guided walking tour of the old part of town.

Carrie has a good suggestion—-go straight to Luzern, spend 2 nights there, and then take a direct train to Milan. Or spend one night and take the direct train to Lugano for the second night.

The Landesmuseum is excellent, with interactive displays and signage in English. Very good selection of archaeologic artifacts.

If anyone in the family is interested in WWII or aviation history I highly recommend the Air Force Center which is about 15 minutes from the main train station north of the city proper.

I stayed in a good hotel in Shilcity a couple weeks ago. Had both tram and rail within 100 yards, good restaurants nearby, a great shopping mall, and a really nice public library. It was very easy for me to get anywhere in town from there with no effort.

I found buying a point to point ticket cheaper than the day pass, but I tend to walk a lot.

HI KGC,
Thank you for Zurich info. Are you willing to share which hotel you stayed in? Thank you, G

I'm a long time Marriott member, having racked up a lot of points back when I traveled a lot more for work. I still use them when I can get a deal. The place I stayed was the Home Hotel, https://www.thehomehotel.ch/

There's a nice walk along the river, and it's not far to the lake. But what I really liked was the easy on, easy off, with the train and trams. Plus I found two nice books for 1 euro each on the library sales rack.
