Zurich for 2 days

Hi,
We have a quick stay in Zurich in September and wonder what your recommendations would be for 2 days there.
Thank you!

2 days? Suggestion: get out of Zurich. Head to Lucerne and stay there.

I have enjoyed a day in Zurich when required by a one-night flight layover (mostly to see the National Museum and wander the lakefront) but Luzern gets you closer to the mountains and the reasons tourists come to Switzerland. Direct trains between Zurich Airport and Luzern depart hourly and take one hour.

I also say get out of Zurich and head to Lucerne. You won't regret it!

Before offering suggestions, it would be helpful to have a bit of further information on your Itinerary. Are you starting or ending in Zürich? Where are you going before or after Zürich?

Thanks for your input and tell me what you think. We are actually planning a driving trip starting in Koln/Bonn Germany and going to Luxembourg, ??Zurich (can we easily do Luzerne instead?), Lichtenstein, Salzburg and Vienna and flying home from Vienna. What do you think of this itinerary over 2 weeks time and is it as easy to go to Luzerne?

Thank you!

Do you realize you're going to be paying a LARGE surcharge to drop that car off in a different location from where you picked it up? Do you know how difficult it is to drive and park in large cities? Trains will drop you right in the city center without you having to pay to rent a car, buy expensive petrol, pay road tolls, pay to park, pay extra to drop off in different location...

Just make sure you understand what you're getting yourself into.

Tim,
Thank you for your post. We do love to drive and thought we could just park at the hotels we are staying in but you make a good argument. I am going to re-look at the car costs and see about the costs of train tickets. Those are not cheap either.
Thank you and if you think of anything else please let me know.

Sometimes drop off charges alone can total hundreds of euros. And sometimes they are not even disclosed unless you read the fine fine print.
