Zurich, City Tour recommendations?

We are spending the night in the hotel at the Zurich airport, and want to take a city tour before joining a tour group...does anyone have any recommendations for a tour guide or company?

Thanks so much for any replies to my question ...We should have about 30 hours before leaving for St Moritz.

Zurich is pretty small, for a European capital city. We followed Rick's suggested walking tour (down one side of the river, up the other) and saw plenty of the city. Not sure you need an actual tour. Check out Rick's suggested sights and DIY; you've read his chapter on the city right?

Jan,

One option would be to use one of the tour firms that operate the red trolleys. If you take the train from the airport to the Zürich Hbf (about 10 minutes or so), walk out the side door to the Hotel Walhalla. The tour firms operate in the Bus-Parkplatz Sihlquai right across from the hotel, and you can book a tour there.

Thank you both for your responses. I have Rick's Europe through the Back Door and it does not mention Zurich...so where do you get the walking tours by Rick?
While we will want to walk alot after arriving from the US, I also will want to take a city tour so the red trolley sounds great...thanks so much

Europe through the Back Door is Rick's book to help you get acclimated to Europe before you go, but the detailed sightseeing and logistical info to bring along for each destination are in his separate country and city guidebooks. For some cities, walking or museum tour info from the books has also been recorded in a free Audio Tour format; Zurich is not one of those, but perhaps other cities on the list will match some of your later destinations.

The best thing you could do to make Zurich more interesting is to avoid the "Airport hotels". you'll have a nicer time if you choose a hotel in the old city near to the Zurich main train station. You can step out your door and be where everything is, shops, sites, restaurants, other people, the lake. An airport hotel is just not worth a whole day of your vacation.

Yes true, Bern is the capital and Zurich is its major city. So major points for you on that.
