Zurich B&B Near Airport or Easy Access by Train/Tram Please

Hello!
Our daughter currently is in graduate school in the University of Konstanz in Germany. We will be visiting later this month, flying into Zurich. On our way out, we'd like to stay a few nights in Zurich. If anyone can recommend a good B&B or Hotel either near the airport or within walking distance to train/tram lines to the airport and downtown, we'd really appreciate it! We are budget travelers.

Danke!

Budget travelers and Zurich are not a good mix, try www.booking.com with location Zurich Airport - then squeeze the prices down with the slider - but read the reviews before booking.

I have twice flown into Zurich late afternoon and for somewhere to stay before pressing on next day used a place on the edge of Konstanz!!

Hi. There are 3 Accor hotels just west (maybe a mile?) of town center, right on the tram line. We stayed there a few years ago and it worked well. IBIS Budget Zurich City West and 'regular' IBIS Zurich City West, along with the nicer Novotel. If you haven't stayed in an IBIS Budget before, note that it's OK but very basic. The 'regular' IBIS are 'normal' hotel rooms. Have a great trip!

I recently stayed at the Dorint Airport Hotel Zürich . About 5 minutes from the airport with a free shuttle. It was fine and worked great for my purposes in transit. I’m not sure I would base myself there for sight seeing.

Honestly, I would spend time in Luzern over Zurich any day.

Another vote for staying in Lucerne!

Depends on when your flight leaves for the U.S. We fly AAL and our flight is always mid-morning, so we stay in the Ibis Budget Zurich Airport, located in Glattbrug. It's about 50 meters from the tram station, and then 2 stops to the ZRH terminal. In 2023 it was CHF 141 for two of us, really cheap for Switzerland.

If your flight isn't too early, I agree, Lucerne would be much better.

I read the question as being about spending time between the plane and Konstanz in that direction ( On our way out,.....), getting back to the airport for a morning flight would be as easy from Konstanz (65 minutes direct train, first being at 05:09 and then hourly) as Luzern. Going to Luzern on arrival would mean going back via the airport to reach Konstanz.

As an alternative to the concrete of Zurich there is St. Gallen, which is sort of the right direction for Konstanz afterwards. Has an old centre with some history. Also has access to the scenic "pre-Alps" by narrow gauge trains or by some Scottish built double decker buses (honest!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fi5KUd_Xhig
