Zurich airport to nearby hotel late night and back to airport very early morning

Our flight arrives 10:30 pm in Zurich and 5 of us need to go to the Intercity Hotel a short distance away. The hotel shuttle is unreliable according to reviews, especially late at night. I have read about a #510 bus that goes from the airport to Rumelang, a 5 minute walk from the hotel, but don't know whether this bus is available past 11:30 pm or as early as 4:30 am.

A few days later, we need to go from the hotel to catch a flight leaving at 7 am, so I'm assuming we need to be at the airport by 5 am. The hotel shuttle is not available that early. What would be the best way to make these short trips for 5 adults? Uber/taxi or is it possible to reserve a limo? I imagine Uber etc are super expensive, even though the journey is about 7 minutes.

There is a 510 bus at 11:18 pm that will get you there by 11:26. Also one at 9 past midnight.

The first 510 bus to the airport is at 5:16 am and gets you there by 5:24, should be good enough for an inter Schengen flight. That is the earliest public transport option.

Schedules at www.sbb.ch/en. Use "Rümlang, Inter City Hotel, Flughofstrasse" as your location.

Considering that the ticket price is 4.60 CHF per person each way, consider a taxi unless you have some sort of pass you will be using.

Thanks, Sam! We could take the bus, but it seems like even if it costs 40-50 CHF for a taxi, the time saved late at night and early morning would make it worth getting a taxi. There's probably a surcharge for taxi fares early morning and late night, but we'll have to just live with it.

Couple of thoughts....

  • there are hotels (Hyatt, Radisson) on the airport grounds. Of course they are more
    expensive than the Intercity (and I expect cost is at least part of the reason for
    choosing that hotel), but maybe for the last night, for instance, consider staying
    right at the airport so you can avoid a bus/taxi.

  • There are hotels in Glattbrugg that are served by the #768 bus or 10 tram that are
    a bit earlier than the 510, if you are not bound to the Intercity hotel. The 768 back
    the airport picks up in Glattbrugg starting at 4:55am, 5 minutes to the airport.

I assume you've verified this in more detail, but the Intercity website says the hotel
shuttle back to ZRH starts at 4:30am.

shoeflyer, thanks for the info about the 4:30 am start for the shuttle! I missed it and didn't look hard enough, was listed under "Location and Direction".

You are right, cost was a consideration in not choosing the Hyatt and Radisson.
