Zurich Airport removing liquid restrictions at airport security

Good news if you are departing Zurich Airport. As of June 26, the liquid limits for hand luggage will be increased from 100 ml to 2 litres, in line with numerous other European airports. There will also be no need to remove liquids and electronics from hand luggage, as they can stay in the bag for screening purposes. With this, Zurich joins the list of a growing number of European airports loosening airport security requirements, such as Heathrow, Gatwick, Rome, Milan, Dublin, Krakow, Edinburgh, Bucharest, Prague (T1), Vilnius, etc. One thing to note is that transfer passengers connecting via Zurich still have to follow the old rules for the moment, as these checkpoints have not yet been equipped with the latest technology.

We flew out of MXP last month and were pleasantly surprised that they allowed us to go through security with bottled water. It will certainly be nice when this technology is fully operational in the U.S.

Not all of Heathrow. I flew out of T2 a couple of weeks ago. Liquids and electronics had to come out.

It was strange for me as well. I've departed in the past year from T2,3 & 5 numerous times without a problem. I looked and the new machines were being used.

Just be aware, all is well and good, until your port of entry into the United States, and you have to transfer and go through security. TSA does not care what rules other airports have in place, and enforce the 311 limits.

And it doesn’t mean your liquids won’t be spot checked. Last month Heathrow opened my carryon and pulled out my shampoo bottles and tested them.
