Zurich airport question

We have been to the airport several times, but never to make a connecting flight. We are arriving on an Edelweiss flight and connecting to a Swiss Air flight to our final destination. Does anyone know if we will have to go back through security as we race to make our second flight? We only have an hour and are a little concerned we will run out of time. Thanks!

Where is the 2nd flight going? If to USA, you'll take the shuttle train (with the mooing cows, yodeling, and cow bells) to the remote terminal and get another "random" security check before boarding.

This web site may help answer your question. I think it depends on which country you're coming from and going to -- within Schengen countries or not. Go to the "Information for transfer passengers" pdf document. Page 1 differentiates the airport by Schengen and non-Schengen areas. Page 2 lists which countries are Schengen or non-Schengen.

But you'll probably be able to get your most reliable answer by calling Edelweiss or Swiss International airlines and asking about transfer time in your circumstance.

Thanks all! We are coming in from the US and heading on to Italy, so within the Schengen zone.

Meaning our final destination is within the zone :)

If you're flying direct from the US, and since the US is not in the Schengen zone, you'll arrive in a non-Schengen zone area of the airport, and have to go through passport control to enter the Schengen zone, to change to your flight for Italy. That may put you in a different terminal of the airport.

Yes Linda I believe it does, so that's why I'm curious to know if we will need to go through full security screening again.

My recent (11 month ago) experience is you land at the remote terminal, take the shuttle train to the main terminal where you go through Schengen immigration, and then walk to your connecting gate. Very painless.

1 hour is tight. Is there another later flight to your destination later in the day for a back up?
