Zermatt when to go

We are adapting to our ages and decreased mobility while still wanting to travel. Am planning a trip to Switzerland which will primarily be focused on scenic train rides. Thinking Bernina Express and then going from Chur to Zermatt. We have been to Lauterbrunnen and loved it but want something different. We can walk but minimal distances. Question: would mid June be a good time of year? Reading that May would not be but want to avoid peak summer travel.
Any suggestions of things to do in Zermatt and Zurich would be appreciated. Thanks.

I was in Zermatt last June, June 9-12 to be exact. I did not have the best weather and some things were still closed, but I still had a great time. I was there right before the big storms that shut off access to Zermatt. There’s really no way to predict the weather these days. You just have to hope for the best and plan for the worst.

This is from my trip report:

Even though it was cloudy, I went up to the Gornergrat, because it’s
such a nice train ride. I also took the funicular up to Sunnegga. The
old part of town, the Hinterdorf, is a unique area to walk around. I
also popped in the Matterhorn Museum. One highlight of Zermatt was the
Gorner Gorge, which is an easy walk from the center of town. Nature at
its finest! THE highlight of Zermatt though was the cute little black
nose sheep. I thought it was too early in season, so I wasn’t
expecting to see them. I just happen to see some up on a mountain
behind the train station. You always have to be looking around when
you’re out walking as you just never know what you’re going to find.
It took me a while to figure out how to get up to them, but I did!!!
They were kind of crazy; they just came running right up to you.
Charge!! I included a short video with my photos linked above. They
are not painted different colors for Pride month like my mom thought
:-) but so the farmers can identify which sheep are theirs.

I love watching travel videos on Youtube. There are so many great video bloggers focused on Switzerland. I recommend the Traveling Swiss.

Also, I just watched this one yesterday. This couple went from Venice to London via train, you can focus on the portion through Switzerland. It didn't go as planned due to track issues, but it looks beautiful nonetheless.
