What is the best way to travel by train from Zermatt to Murren on a Friday in early July? This is just one leg of our trip, and I expect we will be purchasing a Swiss Rail Pass. Thanks for your help!
Just get on the train and go. The Zermatt-Gothard bahn trains go at least twice per hour. At Visp you get trains heading to Spiez, there to Interlaken Ost, then to Lauterbrunnen, then a short cable lift and finally the BLM train to Muerren. The departures are frequent enough that you can pretty much go whenever you want. Takes a little more than 3 hours.
Thank you for the quick reply, Sam. Very helpful.
The train schedules online will focus on the fastest connections between two points, or agents in the station are also willing to print these for you.
Barbara, how was your trip?
Did you use a Swiss pass/Half Fare card?
Can someone tell me, or you, Where would one buy a pass coming from Chamonix? Is it possible to buy on the French side?
Would love to hear what you thought of the area you visited.
