Zermatt-Paris Advanced Purchase?

I took a peek at a train ticket from Zermatt to Paris, ( thanks to folks helping me out on this site!).

Is this one I need to buy in advance? Or buy the TGV part ? Or can I wing all of it it ? kind of expensive, and I’m not yet sure I’ll have a Swiss pass that might defray the cost a bit Looking at Sept 3.

Thx!

We have gotten great discounts by buying Sparangebot (Special Offer) tickets on cross-border tickets by buying 3 months in advance on SBB.ch. The website will figure in any discounts you have with a Swiss Pass.

Did you check prices for 9/3 on SBB?

So here is what I found on SBB.ch:

Travel Zermatt to Paris on Sept. 3, without Swiss Pass, full price 247 CHF, special offer 166 CHF

With Swiss Pass discount, full price 107 CHF; special offer price 40 CHF.

I did find those, thanks! I not sure about my trip yet, so I probably can’t buy a pass until I get there. Thanks so much for pointing me in the right spot.

You can buy a ticket online and include the Pass discount without having the actual Pass in hand. You just need to have it to show when you actually use the ticket to Paris. so it is OK to buy it when you arrive in Switzerland.

Another option, if you don't think you'll have a Swiss pass, is to buy the TGV part separately now (I see 29 euro tickets from Lausanne to Paris !!) and to get a Saver Day Pass from the CFF website precisely sixty days before Sep 3 for the best price starting at Fr 52 to cover the first part to Lausanne.
Hard to do better than that. Normal fare from Zermatt to Lausanne is over Fr 80 so you save a fair amount.
