Zermatt outerwear advice for August 2024

Going to Zermatt mid August, 2024…going on gondolas and trams to the mountain tops…no hiking, just observation. Staying in town, not on mountain. What kind of outer wear should we take?

You're asking what the weather is going to be? Well, if I knew that....

What's your tolerance for cold temperatures?

In general, it will probably be in the 70's-80's in town during the day. But
4000' higher up, maybe the 40's? And it could precipitate.

If all you're doing is riding to Gornergrat and/or Klein Matterhorn, you'll
be able to go inside if you get cold. So, sunglasses, sunscreen, and either
a light ski jacket or rainjacket + fleece ought to suffice. Something you can
take in/out of the daypack.

But it's the mountains, conditions can change on a dime.

When I go to the mountains, I’ve learned to take a little bit of everything. My lightweight puffer coat, a raincoat, a fleece, long and short sleeve shirts, and a sunhat.

I was just in Zermatt last month, although it feels like 2 years ago, and I loved it. If you have some time, check out the gorner gorge.

Have a great trip!!
