Zermatt in August itinerary help

First I want to say I am SO thankful for this community and all the help I have been offered while planning this trip. I get very anxious going places I am unfamiliar with and this is the first time we will be doing a trip where we do everything ourselves.

Background: Husband and I (mid 30’s and early 40’s) will be in Zermatt thurs, Friday, sat (aug 15-17).
I am having trouble laying out our plans for our two full days and not sure what makes the most sense.

  • We arrive in the afternoon on Thursday (coming from Montreux via train) and I’m sure we will just explore the town and check into our hotel etc.
  • We would like to go to gornergrat and matterhorn glacier paradise. Was also looking at doing Rottenboden hike (scenic trail) and perhaps Stellisee (Crystal Trail). I’m stuck as to what to do on which day. We don’t want to be rushed and we aren’t super early risers (although we can get up if we have to). (I know most of this is weather dependent so we may need to switch which days we do what)

Is doing Glacier paradise first, then Gornergrat and Rottenboden scenic trail in one day too much? And then perhaps on a separate day doing Stellisee (since it is across the way)? Is there a better way to separate these? Once again, we don’t want to be rushed.
THANK YOU!

I was just there in early July. My priority (at 10 am) was to get some pictures of the Matterhorn without clouds so I started with the Gornergrat Railway as it is across from the train station. When we got back to Zermatt, we went to Sunnegga - Rothorn as it was closer than the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise. It has a different viewing angle and wasn't very busy once we reached Rothorn. We ended the day with time for a relaxing dinner.

It is all going to depend on the weather, so stay flexible and be ready to change plans on the fly.
