Zermatt Advice - Gornergrat and Matterhorn Glacier Paradise

Hi all,
I will have 2 nights staying in Zermartt in the late Apr.

I see there are mainly 2 non-hiking attractions (as in the subject) to visit the Matterhorn - One is by tram and the other is by cable car. Which one is batter? Or is it possible to visit both of them within 1 day(which I will do if possible)?

One more thing, how about the Riffelsee lake? How can I get there?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Late April is still be ski season in Zermatt. The chairlifts on the Gornergrat will shut down after April 21, but the Gornergratbahn will still be running. The Riffelsee will likely still be frozen and snow covered. You can hike there (through the snow probably) from the Rotenboden station on the Gornergratbahn.

Yes, it is possible to do both Gornergrat and Glacier Paradise the same day.

Sam, thanks a lot for your reply.
Seems the hiking is not a preferred plan in April. I will skip it this time.

One more question, we are a bit afraid of the altitude sickness in these mountains. Is it easy to find any medicine in Zermatt for preventive treatment before we get on train/cable cars?

Zermatt is the same elevation as Denver, Colorado. I guess I don't worry too much about altitude sickness since I have skied there several times, as well as Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, and Mammoth Mtn, which are all as high on top as the top of Klein Matterhorn. You may feel a bit light headed when you are there, but you are only there a few hours. It is the elevation where you sleep that can bring on altitude sickness, generally above 8500 feet in my experience. Zermatt is right on 5280 feet, so you should be fine.
