Zermatt

We're in Zermatt for two nights early October, which would you recommend to see the Matterhorn?
Alpine car, gondolas or cog railways?
If we take the Zermatt to Gornergrat cog railway return, should we pay over 220 Swiss Francs for two with priority boarding: https://www.gornergrat.ch/en/stories/gornergrat-round-trip or get the senior ticket with anywhere seating for 58Euros for two: https://www.myswissalps.com/gornergrat/tickets? Big difference in $$$$ or get the senior tickets for the earliest ride up?
Thanks all,

Jean

Gornergrat is the best viewpoint in my opinion. If you are able to, walking to Riffelsee (from Riffelberg) is worth it too - it is along the same railway. Not a hard walk - my non-sporty mother in her 70s, with a dodgy heart valve, managed without trouble.
I do not know about the senior ticket, but the priority ticket is definitely useless. My parents were there last week and crowds were reasonable; October will be far less crowded.

I went for a run up post a restaurant at a location called Reid just above the town. The views from around that restaurant were brilliant.

Did you buy your tickets online before you left or did you get them when you arrived in Zermatt?
Thanks all,
Jean

My parents bought them in Zermatt. There is no point buying in advance, since it is only worth going if the weather is fair. Early October crowds should be very manageable anyway.
