Worthwhile Small Town Train Stops Between Ballenberg Museum, Luzern, Zürich, and St. Galen

This June I will be taking the train through Switzerland. My Rick Steves guidebook has been very helpful, but I am wondering about some of the locations it did not mention. Between the Ballenberg Museum, Luzern, Zürich, and St. Galen (from which I will head to Munich), there are stops at Brünig, Lungern, Kaiserstuhl, Giswil, Sachseln, Sarnen, Rotkreutz, Zug, Baar, Thalwil, and Winterthur. Thank you for your help finding which of these towns to visit!

Hi Marcia, I can comment on a few that I have been to. It depends on what you want to do there.

Brünig - great location to start a hike, or check out the second hand/antique store at the train station

Lungern - I like to go here to take photos. It involves some hiking up and down the hills if you want to explore a bit. The lake is very beautiful. Not really a place to explore shops and things.

Sachseln - I also go here for photos. The train station is more or less level with the lake and there is a nice walking path along the lake. I haven’t been in the village area.

Sarnen - Have been here on market day. More small village and shops rather than nature (although surrounded by nature, of course).
