Winter Hiking in Switzerland FYI

Switzerland's winter landscapes are truly breathtaking, and one of my favourite ways to explore them is through the extensive network of well-groomed winter hiking trails. I wanted to share what hiking along these trails is like in the hopes of inspiring others to try it for themselves.

Forget the idea of trudging through knee-deep snow, struggling to find your way. Switzerland has over 5,000 km (3,100 miles) of meticulously maintained winter hiking trails. In the Jungfrau Region alone, you’ll find more than 100 km (62 miles) of these clearly marked paths.

For a closer look, check out this YouTube video of the First to Bachalpsee hike. In it you can see what the winter trails look like and how stunningly beautiful these hikes can be:

Our first trip to Switzerland was at New Years, 2014. What an experience to hike on those groomed trails! It started out love affair with Switzerland. I wish traveling here in winter was more practical.
