We are in Wilderswil near Interlaken for a couple days after RS tour to do the Schynige Playtte hike. It may be rainy. Any suggestions for rainy weather in the area?
Check the Swiss Meteo site (or get the app on your phone) for the most accurate forecasts. Often the weather is not as bad as it looks like it might be. Usually it does not rain ALL day. Also, there can be terrific variation in the area. The
Lauterbrunnen Valley may be misty but you could go over to Beatenberg and find sun and a nice ridge hike.
If it is not hiking weather, cruise on one of the lakes is nice. Make a reservation for one over lunch time and eat while you cruise. You can joyride on the lifts, especially if you have a Berner Oberland Regional Pass, riding up to Eigergletscher on trains then down to Grindelwald on the new Express and returning via either the cable ways to Mannlichen and Wengen with final trains to Wilderswil or via train from Grindelwald. It’s a beautiful trip.
I have found out that the MeteoSwiss short term forecast from the day itself was quite accurate these last weeks. We often had days that started nice and sunny, but with often rain showers in the afternoon, and the predicted times that rain would start were usually spot on.
So get up early, check the forecast, and plan your hikes so that you will be back before the rain. But do carry a rain jacket anyway. The Schynigge Platte to First hike is a long one, where you need to be prepared for a change in the weather anyway.
We enjoyed visiting an Alphorn maker in Halpern!
Would getting to the Alphorn factory from Wengen be covered by the B-O pass?
