Why isn't Engelberg in the Switzerland guidebook?

My husband and I have planned our own European trips for years, using Rick's books but also noting where his tour groups are going. (Sometimes I "borrow" from both his suggested itineraries and his actual guided tours.)

I noticed that his tour to Switzerland includes a stay at Engelberg but when I searched his Switzerland guide book I couldn't find even a mention of Engelberg, where I was thinking of going as a day trip from Lucerne.

Does that make sense? Just curious if other readers have noticed. It's disappointing and puzzling.

Rick can't keep everything in his guidebooks. It is well known that they are "selective" as to the spots covered. Thank goodness, his disciples still manage to stray from the path, and enjoy doing it.

I'd say that the tour was planned by different people than the one who wrote the book. If it's a hit with tour members and guides, there's a possibility that it could be added to the book in future years, since that book's not yet overgrown. When 2017 tour itineraries are published online in August, you can review whether they've made any changes from the first year. The Lucerne tourist office can give you any practical info that you need for the side trip.

Thanks for the responses but I still find it odd that a Steve-sponsored tour stop doesn't get included in the book.

Rick Steves books are very selective and good at what they present, you can have a look at Fodors which covers all of the important sights that you might want too visit. We have used alternative sources for many of our trips, there will be omissions in some of his covered regions that you can pick up on in the other sources.
