Looking at Zermatt, Lausanne and Lucerne right now.

8-day Swiss Travel Pass.

You can tick Luzern of the list by taking the hourly direct Voralpen Express from St Gallen to Luzern, store bags at the station lockers. When the day is done, take the RE train to Bern for a more scenic ride.

Going to Zermatt, take the BLS line via Kandersteg to Brig, as it is much more scenic than the fast way through the Loetschberg Base Tunnel. At Brig, take the train to Zermatt. Use the fast way going back to Bern.

We just returned from our trip to Switzerland. We purchased the STP pass at the Zurich airport SBB office.
They were very helpful and made sure we had he right pass for our stay. It was super easy travelling around by train. If we had any questions we just asked other passengers or stopped at the SB office at the train station. The trains were super clean and definitely on time! We also used it on the trams and busses.
Even had a lady help us one day when we got turned around. Not all the streets are marked with names so that was fun. We didn't see everything on our list but what we saw was amazing. One thing I would tell people is to account for your travel to see the sights. Sometimes the travel back and forth to your hotel takes longer than you think.
So a big thank you to everyone who gave us ideas and information. We based out of St. Gallen( my family lived in Heiden) , Bern, and Zurich then travelled from there to our other cities. It worked great!
