Which tansportation pass?

I will be in Switzerland for 6 weeks. On a Rick Steves my way trip for 12 days for the 2nd and 3rd week. Which pass allows for the most freedom? Not interested in boat rides. Looking at trains and some museums.
Thanks

This is a difficult question to answer for someone else because, as with many things, it depends. No doubt your RS tour covers all transportation during it but you will use various means before and after. No boats, but how about cable ways? Exactly where in Switzerland will you go on your own?

This site may be helpful in sorting through the options and particulars for YOU. https://www.myswissalps.com/travel/tickets/compare/

Most likely you’ll need more than one pass due to the duration of your stay. Putting the proverbial pen to paper and writing out your itinerary will be helpful as you calculate what trains and cable ways you are likely to take. You can always come back here with a sketch of your itinerary and we can help further.

Are you doing the My Way Alps tour? That starts in Austria and ends in France. So, you will be in Switzerland for one week before the tour and 5 weeks after the tour? Is that what you’re doing? Or are you taking the Best of Switzerland in 12 days tour? That is guided and not a my way tour.

Yes, the myways tour, then a week in Zermatt, then a week in Gimmelwald. And the last week is open.

Melissa,
Knowing you have a week in Zermatt and a week in Gimmelwald, the regional passes for those areas will likely be a good value. There is a Zermatt Peak Pass https://www.zermatt.ch/zermatt/experience/detail/Peak-Pass-TDS00020013600872998?lang=en&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwt4a2BhD6ARIsALgH7DohbbQvdDeRUdXTopovFXtjTdH5ubj61XZou1w5V54CKRqpyqY_ppUaApvpEALw_wcB#/

And a Berner Oberland Regional Pass https://www.berneroberlandpass.ch/de/all-in-1-ticket/.

In addition, a Half Fare Card will give you half off any trips not covered by a pass and a discount on buying the regional passes.

It may be a Swiss Travel Pass would be useful depending on other parts of your itinerary.

Whether you want them or not, boats are covered by regional passes and the half fare card. So are buses, city transport.
