We want to spend ~ 1 week in northern Italy and ~ 2 weeks in Switzerland this year. We’re both retired, so our time is very flexible. Better to do Italy first early June than Switzerland? Or Switzerland first in early September and then Italy? Milan and Zürich will be the airports we’ll fly in and/or out of. Which months do you think would work best for this combination? Like everyone else, not wanting huge crowds or big cities. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
In June go to IT first. In Sep go to CH first if going to the Lauterbrunnen Valley.
We have had better luck with the weather in September than June in Switzerland. I hope that continues, as our next trip will be in September!
Depends on what you want to do. For high alpine (hiking, mountain villages) the best time is late June through mid September to get greenery & sunshine. In a typical year a lot of the higher altitude things don't fully open until mid-late June because of snow. In 2022 we were in Bettmeralp and it snowed on September 17 and was in the 30s, but the week before it was sunny and in the 70s.
