We will be traveling to Switzerland from Germany by car in September 2024. We plan to make a stop in Lichtenstein. Since it will be a large driving day we’d like to stay close to the border to make the most of our time. I looked into the town of Glarus but didn’t know if there were other towns that might be better. We will also be visiting the areas of Interlaken and Thun during the remainder of our trip there.
if you are planning a visit to Liechtenstein to check a box, be prepared to be underwhelmed, especially if you have seen the alpine areas of Switzerland or Austria.
I only say that based on experience.
Minor point - the country is spelled LIE. LI is the castle south of Tuebingen.
We visited Liechtenstein, just to "tick the box" and were heartily underwhelmed. Its really not worth the diversion. But for what its worth, we stayed in Chur and loved it there!
The lovely city of Feldkirch, Austria, which has a lot of character, is on the border with Liechtenstein. You clearly want to visit Liechtenstein, so ignore the naysayers and enjoy your visit!
If Liechtenstein had been part of Switzerland it would probably be the most boring town in Switzerrland and nobody would go there. Basically a standard Swiss town, with the colours of the car licence plates reversed.
Really WengenK, don't hold back tell us how you really feel ...
The primary purpose of that country is a tax haven, innit?
