I am spending 2 nights in Luzern and Rick's suggestions in the guidebook are all so expensive. We need a double room and would prefer to have our own bathroom. Any suggestions for nice places for less than $150/night? Not really wanting a hostel. Doing AirBNB in other locations but they're like $100+/night in Luzern and for that I'd rather have a hotel.

Try The B&B. Doubles are 130. I've stayed there before and was very pleased. Staying again later this year.

The Ibis Budget Luzern on Kellerstrasse is across the river from the train station, but right at a bus stop, so easy access. Basic, cheap, and clean with en-suite shower.

The Ibis chain is known for clean budget accommodations, with the Ibis Budget branding saying it all. Breakfast extra.
We stayed at the Waldstaetterhof across from the train station at 175 CHF/USD (Late February but during the Carnival holiday) per night for two persons and that price included a nice buffet breakfast for two. (I need at least 10 CHF worth of coffee to start my mornings). We booked through Expedia and pre-paid but had free cancellation.
