We only have one night in Lucerne and 2 in Como recomemdations please. We will be using eurorail so close to train stations would be helpful or short taxi rides. Thanks for help!

Either. We are traveling by train so a short taxi ride some where in the vicinity would be good too.

We spent part of our honeymoon in Varenna a few years back and loved it. Small, authentic, and easy to access by train. Very lovely town. We even day tripped to Lugano by bus easily as well.

I stayed at the Hotel des Alpes in Luzern just last month. I was fortunate as I received a room on the first floor with a view of the bridge, lake and river. It's a 10 minute walk from the train station. The entrance from the river side leads to a flight of stairs so it's easier to enter from the opposite side.
No AC so if it's warm get a fan from the front desk.
