We can’t make our fall trip to Europe this year until mid-November. Because so many things are closed up in the Berber Oberland at that time, should I just stay in Interlaken two nights and take the mountain train up to Jungfrau in a one-day outing? We can come always back there another time to hike.
This time of year is generally quiet in the area, so staying in Interlaken might be a better option as you'll find more hotels and restaurants open.
On the bright side, the mountain peaks should be covered in fresh snow, and there may even be snow all the way down to Lauterbrunnen, especially toward the end of the month. I’ve had several beautiful November walks there, with fresh snow and clear blue skies. While this is the ideal scenario, keep in mind that the weather could also bring rain and fog.
Your hiking options will depend on the difficulty of the hikes you're looking for; simpler walking routes like Grütschalp-Winteregg-Mürren and the local walks in Wengen are open all year round.
