Where to stay in Berner Oberland

I am going on the RS Best of Switzerland tour next September and plan to return to the Berner OBerland area after the tour concludes in Bern. I generally book hotels thru Booking.com or use that site to find hotels and then book directly, but there didn't seem to be many to choose from on that website compared to going to a major city. The tour stays in Murren for 2 nights but I haven't decided if I'll stay in Lauterbrunnen or try Wengen on my return. No one seems to mention specific lodgings when discussing their plans.

Any suggestions on hotels/B&B?

How long will your stay be? There are B&Bs and hotels galore in each location. Some to check in Lauterbrunnen are are Hotel Oberland, Hotel Staubbach, and Hotel Silberhorn. Camping Jungfrau has cute little bungalows and cottages as an option.

Here are various options not always on the big platforms. https://www.bedandbreakfast.eu/en/l/2659992/lauterbrunnen

I don’t frequent Wengen much except to pass through so maybe someone else can help.

In Murren, I enjoyed staying at the Alpenblick in a Single room, balcony with mountain view on the front side. The views were excellent.

From my notes, here are several that were also recommended in the past on the Forum:

Hotel Alpenruh on. RS tour. It’s right next to the gondola station for the Schilthorn and the opposite side or Murren from the train. Probably about 10 minutes or so to walk it.
Rooms are small but the view was fantastic!

Hotel Jungfrau in Murren.

However, Hotel Jungfrau seems a bit old and dreary to me. Friends who stayed there one night last August said it was “OK” but not great.

The nearby Hotel Bellevue, has better views than Alpenruh.

I stayed at Hotel Silberhorn in Lauterbrunnen and it was a great place to stay with wonderful views from the dining room while enjoying the breakfast buffet.

Also recommended in my notes:

Hotel Staubbach

Hotel Steinbock

All the best,

We have been to BO three times…..2 of these trips we have stayed in Lauterbrunnen and prefer that….Hotel Silberhorn……..delicious breakfast and a great location to catch a train to anywhere we want to go. We stayed one year at Hotel Alpenrose in Wengen…..lovely but pricey hotel……very crowded room and seated meals on a time schedule where you sign up for one time or the other…the nights we came in late after touring we felt like everyone was already fed and seated in the lobby visiting, watching the “younger ones” coming in after hours…..did not enjoy that stay as much as the stays in Lauterbrunnen…….

The tourist office of Murren has a website that lists vacation cabins and apartments for rent by their owners. The owners generally are Swiss who rent their vacation homes out directly to travelers and the prices often are
at substantial savings when compared with what you’ll see on the commercial websites. You can save even more as the apartments/cabins have kitchens. Co-op grocery stores are everywhere in Switzerland and there is one right in Muerren. There also are listings for Wengen and Lauterbrunnen on their tourist office websites. Click the top of the first page where the horizontal lines are. Then select “Essen und Ubernachten “ ((dining and overnighting) and then select “Ferienwohnungen” ( holiday apartments).
You enter the dates you’ll be there and all options are
listed.
Have a great Trip! 🇨🇭

Since you'll be staying for two nights in Mürren with the tour, you may wish to try a different "home base" when you return.

I normally stay in Lauterbrunnen at Hotel Oberland if possible, but there are a couple of other nice hotels there also (mentioned in previous posts). Lauterbrunnen is the location of the rail station, so it's the transportation hub for the area and easy to reach both sides of the valley from there. That minimizes transportation times and costs.

Some people don't favour Lauterbrunnen as it's on the valley floor so doesn't have the same spectacular views. However I find that the waterfall and other scenery to be fantastic and since I'm usually out touring in the daylight hours, the mountain views aren't too much of a concern.

I normally use hotels listed in the RS guidebooks, and book directly with them using their website.

The above positing by "lawes" is spam and has nothing to do with this topic. Don't click on it. Reported.

I've traveled in the BO region about a dozen times for various lengths, and have had lovely stays in many places. Most recently, I found a rental in Wengen right at the base of the cable car. It was a spectacular location, and the apartment was just amazing, with great kitchen and a massive balcony.

Wengen is a fabulous base. Not anywhere close to being crowded like Grindelwald. Super quiet, and easy access to anywhere else.

I changed my reservation from Lauterbrunnen to Murren so we'll see how that goes.

Thanks for everyone's comments
