We will be coming from Paris, stopping off in Lyon, and then continuing to spend the night somewhere in or near Montreux with the idea of taking the Golden Pass to Interlaken. Now realizing that the price of a decent hotel in Montreux near the train station is awfully high!! Can you recommend either a hotel in Montreux or Lausanne or a different spot to stay in with easy train access to Montreux? Thanks!!

Basically anywhere on the train line will be easy access to Montreux. Try plugging your preferred budget into Booking.com and see what comes up. Vevey looked cute, but I don't know anything about hotels there.

I stayed at the Fairmont in Montreux a few years ago, it's huge (the hallways are wide enough for a horse parade) and we had one of the smallest interior rooms. I'm sure the rate was comparable, and it was an easy (albeit hilly) walk to the train station.
