Where to park rental while visting Lauterbrunnen area?

My wife and I will be spending 3 nights somewhere in the Lauterbrunnen area at the end of October. We'll have a rental car, but want to know what do we do with it if we want to spend those nights in Wengen, Murren, etc.? Or would you recommend we stay in Lauterbrunnen - someplace that has parking? Open to suggestions.

markandtricia,

As I recall, there's a car park in Lauterbrunnen, close to the station. I've never used it, so don't know the cost. I'm sure one of the others will be able to provide more information.

Lauterbrunnen makes a great home base for exploring that area as it's the transportation hub for the area, so easy to get to both sides of the valley. There are some very comfortable hotels there, but travel anywhere in Switzerland is pricey, so be sure to budget accordingly.

Just discovered the car park at this link. https://www.jungfrau.ch/shop/en/parkticket
I can buy a 4-day ticket for 54 CHF ($53), so that's great. I also just booked the Pasta & More Bed & Breakfast in Wengen for my 10/25-28/2019 dates, so here's hoping. I can cancel that if needed if I hear super bad things (doubtful). Anyone heard of/stayed at that place?

When you drive into that covered carpark you may be surprised to be going down instead of up. Up or down is OK, but you must not park in any of the reserved spaces. They will be marked with a registration plate (license plate) number, mostly starting with "BE-" as you are in Kanton Bern. If a space is unmarked it is fair game.

Don't go down too far or you will be at the exit and there is no way back up.

When you park the car and get out listen for the sound of babbling and running water. The river runs over rocks right next to the car park. It is visible if you go right to the Wengen side of the carpark and look down.

I use that building regularly and have never had any issues there. Pedestrians go out in the middle of the carpark to a tunnel under the platforms of the station and under the road to the gondola up to Grütschalp and onwards to Mürren. The trains to Wengen depart from the platforms above the tunnel - there is clear signage.

If you have any issues there is a parking office in the tunnel. There are also free toilets there (mind the step in and out) and others in the gondola area.

I've never heard of that B&B. It seems like a strange thing to pushing - pasta - because you are in the Rösti belt. Pasta is more central Italian. hey ho - just my initial reaction. Gotta name it something I suppose.

So, I've been putting together comments from various booking sites and it seems that the "Pasta & More" B&B is like an offshoot of the Hotel Victoria-Lauberhorn right next door. It seems people say that you go into the main hotel to check in, so perhaps it's a group of budget-friendly rooms attached to the main hotel. Picture of rooms on the Pasta&More side of things match pictures they use for their main hotel. Hope it's not a bait-n-switch, but nothing I've seen points to that.

Well they’re probably as budget-friendly as Switzerland can be.

I can’t speak to Pasta and More’s B&B, however, we had dinner there last September and the food was okay. So, it is a for reals place.

Lauterbrunnen makes a great base for the whole area. If you don't mind a small room, our favorite place to stay is in a "small room" at the Hotel Staubach. Their small rooms are nice and they are on the south side of the hotel with a killer view down the valley. The hotel also has ample free parking and it is an easy walk to connections to get to Murren, Wengen etc. Also a car makes it easy to get to the Ballenberg Open Air Museum which is a really interesting place.
On the other hand, we did spend one night in a valley side room at the Hotel Alpina in Murren and the view of the valley from our balcony was just plain Awesome. The only problem with Murren is that to get anywhere else you first have to take a cable car down to the valley. We loved it but probably will not do it again.
The best part about a first trip to Lauterbrunnen is that you will be well prepared for next time. Have fun.
