Are they only sold at the TI or can you buy them right at the lift station? I'm referring to the lifts up to the Schilthorn. I will have a Swiss Pass.
We purchased our Cable Car tickets right at the Stechelberg (valley floor) station.
Should have said, can you buy them at any lift station, but I think the answer is obvious. Thanks!
Your pass only takes you as far as Interlaken. Then you need train tickets to Lauterbrunnen, bus tickets to the cable car at Stechelberg, and tickets for the 3 cable cars you'll take up to the Schilthorn (whew).
It's easiest to do all this at any train station ticket office before you start your trip. Go up to a human at the window, show your pass and tell them where you're going. They'll print out all the necessary tix and charge you the appropriate amount. I did this at the Bern station the morning of my daytrip, was not a problem.
Looking at the Swiss Pass synoptic map, you can go all the way to Mürren at no charge with your pass. You will have to pay 1/2 fare to the Schilthorn from there. I've always purchased my ticket to the Schilthorn at the Mürren lift station. Have a great time—the view is fantastic!
I guess I was thinking Eurailpass. There's a big sign over the platform in Interlaken saying not good past here.
Gabriel,
Just to clarify, once you reach Lauterbrunnen there are two routes to the Schilthorn....
- Post Bus to Stechelberg, Cable Car Gimmelwald > Mürren > Birg > Schilthorn.
- Cable to to Grütschalp, BLM Railway to Mürren, Cable Car Birg > Schilthorn.
It's important to know that, as you'll need to specify the route when you buy tickets. AFAIK, they're not interchangeble.
yes, it's odd that there are the two ways
Ken, if my pass covers me up till Murren I'm not sure why I would need to specify which route I'm taking up to the Schilthorn. BTW my proposed plan to go up via Grutschalp and come back down via Gimmelwald.
Gabriel,
That's true, if you're using a pass you don't need to specify. My suggestions were based on buying P-P tickets. I forgot that you'd be using a Pass.
Thanks for the clarification :-).
