When you need a Swiss Travel Pass or 1/2 Price Pass

We are doing a Rick Steves Tour so don't think we need a Swiss Travel Pass or 1/2 Price Pass. Only off tour for three days. Anyone disagree?

It depends on what you're doing while in Switzerland as a whole. Transportation gets expensive, so if you're doing a few of the more expensive activities the half fare card starts to pay off quickly. Pricing on SBB defaults to half fare card pricing, so you have to double it to estimate what you think you'll be paying for your plans. Once you hit 300 chf of full fare tickets, the HFC starts to save you money and for examples - Schilthorn is around 100 chf, Jungfraujoch is around 250 chf, Grindelwald First is around 100 chf, etc. etc.

If you have a general plan for what you think you'll do during your time in Switzerland, it's easy to add that up and decide if you'll save money getting the HFC, a regional pass, the STP or just pay full fare as you go.

We are currently here post tour and we also came early. The half fare card is good for a month. Choose your start date.

We have been in the alps post tour and bought the Berner Oberland pass for the days we extended our stay. So convenient and easy. Just get on the bus, train, gondola etc. in the area it is valid.

You don’t need anything extra during your tour.
It’s an amazing tour!
