When to take Covid test - returning to US?

All,

The CDC instruction is pretty clear that I need to take the Covid no more than 1 day prior. However, I am not sure how strict the airlines are.

My scenario:
- On the day of my return to US, I will be starting from Lucerne. I will taking a train to Zurich at 1 PM. I have a stop over in Iceland for 3 hours before my connecting flight to US. I am planning to get the proctored test kit before flying from US.

Where do I have to take the test to ensure I keep up with the 1 day rule - Lucerne, Zurich airport or Reykjavik airport?

Anytime the day before your flight from Zurich. And keep in mind it is the day before, not a 24 hour clock.

For example, if your flight from Zurich leaves at 5 pm on a Tuesday. You can take your test any time after 12 am on Monday.
