I keep reading about buying Swiss Travel Passes, Half Passes, and OB Passes during sales. I would love to know if and when we can locate these sales for our trip in September. Thank you!
It hasn't been predictable, so just watch and wait. I don't see any advantage to purchasing Swiss passes very far in advance , so waiting doesn't hurt. And each year the sales were somewhat different.
We can only hope.....🤞Someone here will certainly post the news if it happens.
The half fare card and Berner Oberland pass won’t go on sale. Also as mentioned, no need to buy in advance. Get it when you arrive or at most a day before you leave if you prefer to have it before arrival. Buying way in advance sets you up for having issues if your plans happen to change at all.
Great insight from each of you. Thanks for taking the time to help!
Last year it was get 2 bonus days when you buy an 8 day continuous pass. Or 1 bonus day with an 4 day continuous pass.
^^ For the Swiss Pass, not the Berner Oberland pass
That would be helpful! Do you know when that sale was (about)?
Stephanie, based on your plan of spending a week in Murren I don’t think you’re going to want the Swiss Pass for that. The Berner Oberland Pass is going to cover a lot more of the mountain activities. The Swiss Pass is great for hopping around Switzerland, but for a week in Murren it’s not the greatest option. I’d look at doing a half fare card + BO pass. That way you get half fare to/from the airport, etc but basically everything you do in Murren will be covered, with the exception of big trips like Schilthorn.
We spent a week in Wengen last fall as part of our 2+ week trip to Switzerland. We only bought the 1/2 fare card. When I looked at the cost of the BO pass and the cost of the trains/cable cars/bus/etc in the BO region - I didn’t think we would spend as much using the half fare card as the additional cost of the BO pass even at the half fare reduced cost. We only spent 77 CHF on fares that the BO card would have covered. We traveled a lot in the area during that week. Food for thought……
Last year the Swiss travel pass sale ended as I remember in Mid May. I do not remember when it started.
Looks like last year the sale was announced at the end of Feb. and started April 15th.
