WhatsApp question

I just paid for an international plan with Verizon for the 3 weeks we are traveling abroad. It has unlimited data but just 4 hours of calling. Does anyone know if WhatsApp would count as data if making a call overseas? Or Voxer? Any other ideas?

Thanks!

Any of the VoIP apps like WhatsApp, FaceTime Audio, Hushed and Skype use data if you are not in an area with wifi (or don't access it). The best thing to do is call when you're in your hotel and use the wifi - or find a cafe if you are out that offers wifi. No data used then.

Because your Verizon plan has unlimited data, it shouldn’t matter that WhatsApp uses data. You’re just charged the $100 for the monthly international plan, not for any data usage.

Sign up for Google Voice so you can call US phone numbers for free (using the Google Voice app; uses mobile data or WiFi). Then if you need to call your airline or your credit card company and be on hold for an hour for something, you won't care that you are burning up one of your hours of calling.
