Taking the train at Varenna (Lake Como) for a morning/ lunch stop/ day trip into Switzerland with a 3 yr old. We'd love to take the train with the reservations on the outbound (I'm assuming this train is more classic style? i.e. an interesting option for a kid who loves trains?) and the regional train back.
Questions-
*I believe we take a train from Varenna north to Tirano. Then there's a train from Tirano to St. Moritz....is that correct? How long of a train ride is it from Varenna to Tirano?
- We don't want to go all the way to St. Moritz as we're really looking for a day trip ( i.e. leave from Varenna around 9am and home by 5pm type trip). Where would you get off if you're on the train from Tirano to St. Moritz?
*I've heard of Alp Gruem - any thoughts on making this our stop or is there some place with a bit more to do?
- If we did get off at Alp Gruem does anyone know roughly how long of a train trip it is from Tirano?
Many thanks.
