Flying into Milan for a 2 week tour which includes only 2 days in Switzerland. The 2 days are in Lucerne. My husband and I would like to visit Switzerland the one week prior are tour. Any suggestions on an itinerary? We love lakes and mountains. Interested in taking the Bernina Express. Where should we stay. We plan to travel by trains if we can figure them out.
Where are you going to be before this week?
What are you doing after this week (where do you need to be next)?
I will guess and say you will be coming from Milan, and afterwards want to be in Luzern for your 2 days. In which case I suggest something like:
- From Milan, train to Tirano, where you change to a train via the Bernina Pass route. Overnight somewhere on the rail line, in or near St Moritz. Pontresina is a popular choice
- From there, Glacier Express to Zermatt, 2-4 nights in Zermatt.
- Next train to somewhere in the Jungfrau area: Mürren, Lauterbrunnen, Grindelwald or Wengen (2-4 nights). See this site for info about the area: https://jungfrauregion.swiss/en/summer/
- Train to Luzern to connect to your 2 days there. This is the scenic Brünig Pass route.
Here's Rick's recommendations: Swiss itinerary Use sbb.ch/en (the Swiss Railways site in English) for researching train schedules. But look into discount cards before committing to anything. Ask more questions here when you need to.
