What to pack for the RS My Way Alpine tour.

I will be going on the RS Alpine tour in early June. We stay in five different locations—Salzburg, Fussen, Germany, the Italian Dolomites, Charmonix, France, and the Lauterbrunnen Valley in Switzerland. We will not be hiking but will want to take trains and gondolas, etc up to high mountain views. What sort of clothing do I need to pack for warmth in the higher elevations?

If you look through the packing tips section of the forum you can get first hand reports on all of the tours. But, all mountains in June have variable weather daily and within a day (hot, cold, wet, windy, etc.). You may not be "hiking" but walking around the Alpe di Suisi, or on the trails above the Lauterbrunen Valley will be very hard to resist. So have a waterproof outer layer, a puffy inner layer, a hat, gloves and sturdy (and well broken in) shoes. I always travel with a nice set of merino wool underlayer garments. A light weight, small, 10-15L backpack will allow you to bring extra layers to put on or to take one/several off as the days warm up or cool down. You will have a great time.

In the valleys, it can be 80+ degrees. On the mountain tops, where you have snow, it will be cold! Bring layers, gloves, scarf, and a head cover. My packable down jacket combined with my raincoat has kept me warm in the past. You have a great trip in your future!
