Hi, can any one help me out on what the procedure is......my scenario is I am visiting my son in Zurich in July from a non-Schengen country, my daughter in the Netherlands has bought a ticket from Zurich to Amsterdam for me to visit. Airports overwhelm me since I do not travel often alone. My question is the procedure, do I check in at the check counter and then try to get to the terminal? and what happens between check in and finding my terminal. Please can someone verse on this enlighten me please, would greatly appreciate.
Just like flying between two states in the US (or domestically where you are from).
Arrive at the airport in Zurich, since you probably need help, head for the are noted as Departures, and Check-in". Sometimes they are just designated by airline, some places you look at a big board and find the desk number where you will check in. They will help you at the desk, then direct you to security, you go through, then to your gate. While a bit confusing, there are people to help you along.
In Amsterdam, you get off the plane and follow the signs to ground transportation/arrivals. There is no further security or document check for that flight.
It is not like flying domestic, Switzerland is not part of the EU so there will be a customs check. Although they are usually pretty easy.
If airports overwhelm you, you can also take the train from Zürich to Amsterdam.
Yes, that all so rigorous decision as to walk out the door (green) or seek out a customs official. I guess let's not forget to mention that pedantic detail.
Given that the OP mentioned that they are overwhelmed by airports and wanted to know the procedure, it seemed like an important thing to mention.
Also, customs borders are not pedantic details. It is about what you are allowed and not allowed to bring with you.
lornakay, as mentioned, there are no passport control or immigration checks to deal with to go from Zurich to Amsterdam. My wife and her friends just did a weekend in Zurich and flew AMS-ZRH/ZRH-AMS. The Zurich airport is MY favorite in Switzerland... you'll find it very easy to navigate.
If you have a checked bag, look at the Departure Boards and they will tell you which counter to check in at; Once you drop your bag, you'll get a boarding pass (if you don't already have one); Then, you'll head to a scanner and scan your boarding pass. Next, go through security, and then you are AIRSIDE and simply need to find your departing gate.
If you need directions or assistance, simply ask the person checking your bag! (and if you're flying carrying only - even better - head for the Boarding Pass Scanner!) Good Luck!
A big thank you all for the information
